List of Common and Useful Drag And Drop Operations

This page provides a useful and extensive list of common Drag and Drop operations inside Ventuz that can speed up your workflow a lot. These Shortcuts can be seperated in several categories based on the dragged Element and the target in the Ventuz User Interface.

Toolbox

Content Nodes in the Hierarchy Editor

You can  drag and drop some Content Nodes in the Hierarchy Editor. When doing so, the required Hierarchy Node will be generated and automatically bound to the dropped Content Node. This operation currently exists for the following Nodes with the explained result:

Creating a Material with a bound Texture Property

  • Movie Clip
  • Movie Frame
  • Movie Stream
  • Live Video
  • Gradient
  • Texture Loader

Content and Hierarchy Nodes in the Layer Editor

You can  drag and drop some Content and Hierarchy Nodes in the Layer Editor. When doing so, the required Layer Type is generated and bound to the dropped Node or the dropped Node will work as an Alias of the actual Layer. This operation currently exists for the following Nodes with the explained result:

Creating a 2D Layer with a bound Texture Property

  • Movie Clip
  • Movie Frame
  • Movie Stream
  • Live Video
  • Gradient
  • Texture Loader

Creating a Layer of a specific Type instead

  • Color: Color Layer
  • Switch: Layer Switch
  • Group: Layer Group
  • Scene Port: Scene Layer
  • Template Port: Template Layer

Texture Providers on a Material Node

You can  drag and drop all Texture Providers on a Material Node. When doing so, the target Material Node creates a New Material Stage and binds its Texture Property to the dropped Texture Provider. This operation currently exists for the following Nodes:

  • Movie Clip
  • Movie Frame
  • Movie Stream
  • Live Video
  • Gradient
  • Texture Loader

External Files

Files in the Content Editor

You can  drag and drop most supported File Formats to create the according File Loader Node. See the Supported Formats Page for more details on which files are supported exactly. This operation currently exists for the following Asset Types with the explained result:

Create File Loader

  • Images
  • Textures
  • Video Files
  • Audio Files
  • Text Files
  • XML Files
  • JSON Files
  • Excel Workbooks

When you don't want to copy the File to your project, you can also reference its original location by Ctrl+ dragging and dropping.

You can also drag and drop Images directly from your Web Browser to copy it to your project or reference its original location on the internet.

Instead of creating a Workbook Node and an according Excel Cell Node, you can directly drag and drop the wanted Excel Cell in the Content Editor. To drag an Excel Cell, click and hold its Frame.

Files in the Hierarchy Editor

You can  drag and drop some supported File Types directly to the Hierarchy Container to create the according Hierarchy Node together with the needed Node Network. This operation currently exists for the following Asset Types with the explained result:

Create Material with a bound Texture Property to created File Loader

  • Images
  • Textures
  • Video Files
  • Audio Files

Create Geometry Import Node with already generated Subtree

  • 3D Mesh Files

Create Mesh Loader

  • Ventuz Mesh Files (.VZM)

When you don't want to copy the File to your project, you can also reference its original location by Ctrl+ dragging and dropping. This does not work for 3D Mesh Files since they are only used to generate Ventuz Mesh Files.

Files in the Layer Editor

You can  drag and drop most supported File Types to the Layer Editor to create an according Layer. This operation currently exists for the following Asset Types with the explained result:

Create 2D Layer with bound Texture Property bound to created File Loader

  • Images
  • Textures
  • Video Files
  • Audio Files

Create PSD Import Layer

  • Photoshop Documents

Create 3D Layer with the needed Hierarchy Tree

  • 3D Mesh Files
  • Ventuz Mesh Files

Files in the Document Bar

You can  drag and drop all File Types in the Document Bar that you can also drop in the Layer Editor. This will create a New Scene with the needed Layer. As a result this works for the following File Types:

  • Images
  • Textures
  • Video Files
  • Audio Files
  • 3D Mesh Files
  • Ventuz Mesh Files

Also you can drag and drop Scene Archives there to automatically import it.
